Winter Training Camp at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center
Our top performers in our Senior 1, Senior 2, Senior 3 and National Groups have returned from a 12 day Winter Training Camp at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Alto’s Winter Training Camp was an immersive experience that encompassed various aspects of swimming and high performance, including training, technique refinement, team building, skill work, video review, and of course TRAINING!
Location: The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Technique and Training: A significant focus of the camp was refining and perfecting technical skills, including video review, peer coaching, and stroke-specific skill progressions with the coaching staff. We made some big progress both in technical skills and in training.
Our Work with Dr. Genadijus Sokolovas: Dr. G is currently the Senior Physiologist at Global Sport Technology and the High Performance Director for the USA Pentathlon team. From 2000-2009, he was the Director of Physiology and Director of Sport Science for USA Swimming. He has worked with thousands of swimmers all over the world. Dr. G took hours of video footage during the training camp, measured velocity and provided technical skill / video analysis.
Start Clinic with Björn Seeliger: Björn is a Swedish swimmer who is a member of the Cal Men's Swimming & Diving Team. He was a junior champion in 50 m freestyle at the 2018 European Junior Swimming Championships and holds the Swedish record for 50 m backstroke. He was part of the Swedish team that won 4 × 100 m mixed relays at the 2019 FINA Swimming World Cup meet held in Berlin. Björn lead a race start clinic for Alto!
Guest Speaker Abbey Weitzel: Abbey is a 2x Olympian and American Record Holder who visited to spent time with and talk to our group at the Olympic Training Center! She spoke to Alto about her swimming experiences and swimming journey.
Team Building: We had tons of group exercises, group meetings, team challenges, and collaborative training sessions that fostered a sense of unity and mutual support. We visited Whirlyball, went bowling, had multiple game nights, split into groups for coach-lead workshops, and spent lots of time at the dining hall!
Overall, the 12-day training camp in Colorado Springs was a great experience from start to finish! Through intensive training, technique refinement, team building, skill work, video review, and challenging training sets, our Alto group was able to elevate training performance, strengthen bonds as a team, and make big progress in skills and swimming knowledge.
