Frequently Asked Questions
Please find information below about Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Summer Swimming Lessons for Toddlers, Kids and Teens.
How does the Swim School work?
The Alto Summer Swim School is open in June, July and August. Alto's year-round private lessons are open September - May based on coach availability. For the Summer Swim School, lessons run Monday - Thursday. Your swimmer will be with the same coach for all 4 days to maximize learning and progress across the week!
When are the sessions?
Our Summer Swim School sessions run weekly in the summer (June - July). In August, additional lessons will be added based on coach availability.
Summer Swim School 2025:
Session 1: June 23 – 26
Session 2: June 30 – July 3
Session 3: July 7 – 10
Session 4: July 14 – 17
Session 5: July 21 – 24
All available time slots are listed on our scheduling website.
Fall, Winter and Spring, private lessons can also be scheduled based on coach availability.
How many lessons should I sign up for?
Consistency is Number One! Children make the biggest progress in skill development and confidence with repetition and practice. This is why we structure our program in a 4-class series (Private Lessons) or 8-class series (Group Lessons). This schedule allows us to build on the skills from previous classes. Committing to a series week means your child’s swimming ability, comfort, progress and retention of skills will be accelerated.
How long is each private/group swim lesson?
Private and Small Group Lessons are 25 minutes long. Classes start either on the hour or half-hour. Technique lessons scheduled directly with the Alto Lead Staff are offered at 25, 40 or 55 minutes. These lessons are for more experienced swimmers only.
We will need to miss a class, do you have a make-up class or refund for the day we miss?
There are no refunds for missed classes. To ensure consistency and fairness for all families and instructors, our cancellation policy is summarized below:
Cancellation less than 48 hours will recieve no refund.
Cancellation within two weeks to 48 hours notice will receive a refund minus a $10 non-refundable fee per canceled lesson.
Cancellations made greater than two weeks in advance will receive a full refund.
In the case of inclement weather, unsafe facility conditions or any other cancellation made by Alto Swim Club, a make up class will be offered at a time mutually agreed upon. If a make up class cannot be scheduled, a full refund will be provided.
How should I choose my time slot?
Families should select the time slot that works best with your schedule. Remember that the class runs at the same time for 4 days in a row! Once you meet your coach on Monday, you’ll work with the same teacher for all 4 days to ensure maximum progress across the week!
Each of our instructors has been trained and have competitive swimming experience to work with swimmers from the most novice level up to advanced stroke development. All instructors are CPR/AED and First Aid certified.
What should I bring to the swimming lessons?
Please bring: Swim suit, googles, cap (recommended but not necessary), towel, sunscreen, water. *Our Coaching staff recommends applying sunscreen before entering the pool.
Swim shirts are not recommended because they limit movement and impact body awareness. Please use sunscreen.
What do we do when we arrive to the pool?
When you arrive at the pool, please find the large board that will have your name, instructor and time. Students and families can wait at the benches alongside the pool. If you have any questions when you arrive, please see our Coaching Staff!
How early should we arrive before our swim lessons?
Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before your swim lesson. This will give you enough time to apply sunscreen, change into your swim suit, drink water, and be ready to get into the pool at the start of your lesson time.
