Swim Lessons
Frequently Asked Questions
Please find information below about Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Summer Swimming Lessons for Toddlers, Kids and Teens.
How does the Swim School work?
The Alto Summer Swim School is open in June, July and August. Alto's year-round private lessons are open September - May based on coach avability. For all lessons, families can choose the lesson day, date and time that work best for them. Whenever possible, we recommend signing up with the same instructor for multiple sessions because children often enjoy working with someone who they are familiar with. Read more about our instructors here.
When are the sessions?
Our Summer Swim School sessions run weekly in the summer (June - August). During the Fall, Winter and Spring, private lessons can also be scheduled based on coach availability. All available time slots are listed on our scheduling website.
How many lessons should I sign up for?
Consistency is Number One! Children make the biggest progress in skill development and confidence with repetition and practice. Attending four or more classes in a 1-2 week period allows us to build upon the skills from previous sessions. Committing to 2+ swim classes in a week means your child’s swimming ability, comfort, progress and retention of skills will be accelerated.
How long is each private/group swim lesson?
Each private or small group swim lesson is either 25 or 55 minutes long. Classes start either on the hour or half-hour. We recommend 25 minute lessons for all ages, and 55 minute lessons only for ages 7 and above. Based on coach avability we occasionally have a limited number of 40 minute time slots listed for sign up.
We will need to miss a class, do you have a make-up class or refund for the day we miss?
There are no refunds for missed classes. To ensure consistency and fairness for all families and instructors, our cancellation policy is summarized below:
Cancellation less than 48 hours will recieve no refund.
Cancellation within two weeks to 48 hours notice will receive a refund minus a $10 non-refundable fee per canceled lesson.
Cancellations made greater than two weeks in advance will receive a full refund.
In the case of inclement weather, unsafe facility conditions or any other cancellation made by Alto Swim Club, a make up class will be offered at a time mutually agreed upon. If a make up class cannot be scheduled, a full refund will be provided.
Which instructor should I sign up with?
Each of our instructors has been trained and have competitive swimming experience to work with swimmers from the most novice level up to advanced stroke development. All instructors are CPR/AED and First Aid certified. If possible, we recommend signing up with the same instructor for multiple sessions because children often enjoy working with someone who they are familiar with. Read more about our instructors here.
What should I bring to the swimming lessons?
Please bring: Swim suit, googles, cap (recommended but not necessary), towel, sunscreen, water. *Our Coaching staff recommends applying sunscreen before entering the pool.
Swim shirts are not recommended because they limit movement and impact body awareness. Please use sunscreen.
What do we do when we arrive to the pool?
When you arrive at the pool, please find the large board that will have your name, instructor and time. Students and families can wait at the benches alongside the pool. If you have any questions when you arrive, please see our Coaching Staff!
How early should we arrive before our swim lessons?
Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before your swim lesson. This will give you enough time to apply sunscreen, change into your swim suit, drink water, and be ready to get into the pool at the start of your lesson time.
If you have any other questions, please contact our staff here.
