What is the duration of the training program?

The program duration is tailored to each athlete based on their availability, goals, and the team’s training cycle. Some swimmers visit for as little as five days to compete in a USA Swimming event with Alto Swim Club, while others train with the team for 2 - 3 months or longer. Is this program open to all age groups and skill levels?

How do I register for the program?

Will Alto staff assist with USA Swimming registration and competition entry?

Yes, our staff will handle all the details to ensure a smooth competition experience. This includes completing meet registration paperwork, managing USA Swimming registration and insurance, and assisting with event selection. You will also receive staff communication regarding arrival times, warm-up procedures, check-ins, and everything else needed for seamless participation. You can focus on swimming your best while we take care of the logistics!

Are visas or travel documents required, and does Alto provide assistance?

Visas may be required depending on your country of origin and the length of your stay. All travel documents, including visas, are the responsibility of the swimmer and their family. Alto Swim Club will handle all aspects related to your swimming experience, including training, registration, and competition logistics.

Will I have opportunities to compete in USA Swimming meets during the program?

Yes, you will have the chance to compete in USA Swimming meets, as available based on our training and competition schedule. Our staff will provide a detailed outline of available meets in advance. Competing in U.S. events is a major highlight for many swimmers, offering not only competitive racing opportunities but also a chance to bond with local swimmers, make new friends, and enjoy an enriching competition experience.

Are housing and meals included in the program?

No, housing and meals are not included and will need to be arranged independently. The exception is for specific travel training camps, which you can learn more about here. If your swimmer qualifies for a camp with our 14 & Over Senior and National Program, it is an all-inclusive experience covering lodging, transportation, meals, and training.

What local attractions can I visit during my stay?

Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area offer a wide range of attractions for athletes and families to explore during their visit. Silicon Valley Highlights include: Stanford University andCantor Arts Center, Tech Museums (Computer History Museum, Tech Interactive), Hiking and Nature (Stanford Dish, Santa Cruz Mountains and more), Shopping and Dining (Stanford Shopping Center, Santana Row, San Francisco). San Francisco Bay Area must-sees include: Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, Alcatraz Island, Golden Gate Park, California Academy of Sciences, de Young Museum, Chinatown and North Beach, and many other cultural landmarks and cuisine.

Are there additional costs for meets or sightseeing?

Yes, there will be additional costs for meet fees, which will be outlined based on your swimmer’s competition schedule. Sightseeing is not included in the program but can be arranged independently by the family. Many families choose to combine the training experience with a family vacation to explore the local area and enjoy its attractions.

Can parents or family members explore the area while the swimmer trains?

We encourage you to communicate with our staff regarding any sightseeing or vacation plans that may conflict with your swimmer's training sessions, so we can help coordinate schedules accordingly.

What should I bring with me for training?

Required training equipment will be communicated based on your swimmer's level and training group. In many cases, we can provide most or all of the necessary equipment, so you can travel light. Swimmers typically bring a few personal items, such as fins, paddles, and a snorkel, and will use team-provided equipment like kickboards, buoys, and parachutes as needed. If you have any specific equipment questions, our staff will be happy to assist.

What should I bring with me for competition?

A team uniform will be provided for competition, and swimmers can bring or purchase a racing suit for the meets they attend. Alto team gear is included in your swimmer's package, and many families choose to purchase additional items as keepsakes or mementos of their time with the team. We have many swimmers who return year after year, so hold on to your Alto gear – it will be ready for your next trip!

Is there language support for non-English-speaking swimmers?

Alto Swim Club is proud to be a multicultural community and a destination for international athletes. Many members of our community are fluent in a variety of languages, so there’s a good chance someone in your athlete’s training group will speak your language. Additionally, we have extensive experience working with swimmers from all over the world. Our coaching is highly visual, focusing on stroke technique demonstrations to aid with effective communication, even across language barriers.
