Joey Sementelli is the Head Coach of Alto Swim Club and Lead Coach for the National Group. Joey has been instrumental in developing Alto into one of the best club teams in the country. In 2019, Alto won 1st place at the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championship. Under Joey’s guidance, Alto swimmers rank among the best nationwide each seaosn and have represented the team at the highest level meets locally and internationally, including Olympic Team Trials and the Olympic Games.
Joey was an Assistant Coach for the Stanford University Women's Swimming team from 2015-2018. While coaching at Stanford, the Cardinal won 2 consecutive NCAA Championships. Joey worked with 39 All-Americans who combined for 137 All America honors, 21 individual NCAA champions, and multiple American & NCAA record holders. He worked closely with four Stanford swimmers who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Joey founded Alto Swim Club in 2018. Prior to Alto, Joey spent 7 years as Head Coach and Owner of PASA (Stanford site). During this time, the team was recognized as a USA Swimming Gold Medal Club, won multiple Junior National Championships, and ranked as the top club team in Northern California.
Before moving to the Bay Area, Joey coached in Massachusetts with Shawmut Aquatic Club. Shawmut was recognized as the #1 club team in the country with under 150 swimmers. He was Head Age Group Coach and assisted with the National Group. Joey Head Coached the Framingham Swim Team, a developmental 18 & Under program. Under his guidance, the team grew from 80 to 220 swimmers and posted a dual meet record of 76-3-1. He was also an assistant coach for the Framingham High School Varsity Team. In 2011, Joey was one of two people to receive the Salute to Framingham Award for his outstanding service and work with youth in the community.
Joey has been recognized by the American Swimming Coaches Association as the Pacific Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year. He is actively involved in swimming governance at the local and LSC levels, and most recently served as the Pacific Swimming Age Group Chair. He is an American Swimming Coaches Association Lifetime Member.
