Leah Stevens and Mental Imagery
Former Stanford All-American and current Alto Swim Club Coach Leah Stevens presented to ALTO’s Senior 1, Senior 2 and National groups on the brain’s role in swimming performance. Drawing on her own experience as an elite athlete and her degree in Human Biology from Stanford, Leah discussed how swimmers can use mental imagery to calm pre-race nerves, better execute race strategy and learn new skills.
Leah spoke about her own swimming career and how improving her focus through mental imagery helped her overcome some of her own hurdles, including being one of the youngest swimmers at the 2012 US Olympic Trials, being a member of the US National Junior Team and leading her collegiate team to an NCAA team title.
