Alto Packs the Stands at Stanford's Impressive CSL Win!
Thank you to our Alto families for showing up strong at the CSL Swim Meet at Stanford’s Avery Aquatics Center. The CSL sold over 2,000 tickets to the highly anticipated event, and an all-Alto section represented Alto Swim Club in the stands! Alto played a huge part in creating an electric atmosphere at Avery, and our swimmers had a blast cheering on Stanford, Cal, Auburn, and Ohio State.
Highlights of the CSL meet were the Jackpot system, Skins, and Super Skins. Swimmers can win additional points in a jackpot from lower-finishing competitors by winning by 5%-8%. Stanford and Cal both scored many jackpots, with Cal lengthening their lead throughout the meet.
Skins and Super Skins are elimination-style events that reward consistent excellence from individual swimmers and relay teams. The women swam 4 rounds of Backstroke Skins, and the men swam 4 rounds of Breaststroke Skins. Stanford began to gain points and close the gap on Cal as the meet progressed, and it all came down to the Super Skins. At least one of Stanford’s women’s and men’s relay teams lasted through all four rounds of a thrilling series of Medley Relays.
Super Skins are worth double points, and the only way Stanford could win was a disqualification from Cal. Cal’s Breaststroker left early on a relay exchange and disqualified their relay, giving Stanford the win at home! What an exhilarating race and fantastic experience for our Alto swimmers!
This meet was an awesome night for the Alto community and the swimming community as a whole. What a great experience to see the next level of our sport firsthand and support college swimming at home.
