Joey Sementelli is the Head Coach of Alto Swim Club and Lead Coach for the National Group. Sementelli has been instrumental in developing ALTO into one of the best club teams in the country. In 2019, ALTO won 1st place at the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championship. Prior to ALTO, Sementelli spent 7 years with Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics as Head Coach and Owner of PASA (Stanford Site).

Laura Mitchell is the Head Coach of Alto Swim Club and Lead Coach for Senior 1. Prior to ALTO, Mitchell was Head Coach and Owner of PASA - Cardinal site with Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics. Mitchell excels in cultivating the high-performance and developmental aspects of the team. At local championship meets, Mitchell has coached Far Western and Junior Olympic champions, including Pacific Swimming record holders.

Greg Meehan works primarily with the collegiate & post-graduate swimmers. Meehan is the Head Coach of Stanford Women's Swimming. As a three-time NCAA Swimming Coach of the Year Meehan has led Stanford to three consecutive National Championships, 2017-2019. Meehan is the 2020 U.S. Olympic Head Coach for Team USA. He also was Head Coach for 2019 FINA World Championships.

Assistant Coaching Staff

Alec Scott
National and Senior

Alec Scott joined the Alto Swim Club staff after successful coaching stints at both the University of Alabama and the University of Northern Colorado. He is also an Assistant with the Stanford Men's Swimming & Diving team. Scott works primarily with the National Group and is involved in all aspects of the competitive team. As assistant coach at Northern Colorado, Scott helped the Bears win 3 WAC conference championships, achieve 4 NCAA ‘B’ qualifying standards, break 7 school records, and produce 7 medals with 14 total podium finishes. Swimmers achieved 39 lifetime best performances and Petra Kis was named conference freshman of the year. Scott was at Alabama as a Volunteer Assistant for the 2016-2017 season. He worked closely with the Breaststroke and IM group which included 2016 Olympians Christopher Reid (100M Backstroke) and Anton McKee (100M & 200M Breaststroke). Scott helped Reid to an SEC Championship in the 200 Backstroke and McKee to an SEC Championship in the 200 Breaststroke as well as a runner-up finish in the same event at the 2017 NCAA Championships. In total, Scott helped Alabama to 33 All-America honors among 13 athletes and 7 school records while the Men’s team posted their fifth consecutive top-15 finish at the NCAA Championships. Scott began his collegiate career at Indian River State College. As a sophomore, he was named 2014 NJCAA Men’s Swimmer of the year. After two seasons in the junior college ranks, Scott transferred to Alabama, finishing his collegiate career with the Crimson Tide. He represented Alabama at the 2016 SEC Championships and was also a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier. Scott graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

 

 

Kyle Renne
Age Group

Kyle Renne comes to ALTO with 11 years of coaching experience and after very successful stints at both CSP Tideriders and Tigard Tualatin Swim Club. He was most recently the Lead Developmental Coach for CSP Tideriders in St. Louis, Missouri. During Kyle’s time with CSP, the team won nearly every LSC championship meet at the 8 & under, Age Group, and Senior levels. Prior to coaching with CSP, Kyle was the Head Age Group Coach for Tigard Tualatin Swim Club in Oregon. He has coached multiple Oregon and Ozark LSC record holders, and was the Age Group Chair and Head Zones Coach for Ozark Swimming.

 

 

Leah Stevens
Senior and Age Group

Leah Stevens works primarily with Senior 2 and brings outstanding experience, knowledge and energy to the pool deck. As a former student-athlete, Stevens was a team captain for the Stanford University Women's Swimming & Diving Team. She was a member of 3 consecutive NCAA Championship teams, is a 4 time All American, and is a 2 time CSCAA scholar athlete. Stevens was a swim instructor for the Cardinal Swim School and most recently has experience coaching adult triathletes. Stevens graduated from Stanford with a Bachelor's degree in Human Biology.

 

 

Sarah Berry
Age Group

Sarah Berry has been coaching with the team since 2010 and is a Lead Coach with the ALTO Age Group program. At ALTO, Berry has worked and developed athletes at every level. She has coached numerous Junior Olympic and Far Western qualifiers, point scorers, and event champions. Berry was born and raised in Palo Alto and swam competitively through her high school years. Berry attended the University of Victoria (UVic) in British Columbia, Canada and studied Biology with a focus in Marine Biology.

 

 

Dustin Fukuda
Senior and Age Group

Dustin Fukuda comes to ALTO with 12 years of coaching experience. He works primarily with Senior 2 and will assist in all aspects of the competitive team. Fukuda was most recently a Senior coach at Punahou Aquatics in Hawaii. In 5 years with Punahou Aquatics, Fukuda developed multiple Junior National and National level qualifiers, Future's finalists and a USA Swimming Scholastic All American. Multiple swimmers ranked top 10 in the United States in their respective age groups. Additionally, Fukuda served as a physical education teacher for Punahou School. Prior to coaching with Punahou Aquatics, Fukuda was a Senior Coach at Kamehameha Swim Club for 5 years. Kamehameha won every Age Group and Senior Championship meet in Hawaii during his time with the team. Swimmers set a National Age Group record for a 15-16 year old boys relay and posted multiple nationally ranked swims. The club ranked as a United States Silver medal throughout the course of his tenure. Fukuda competed at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He competed four years at Conference USA Championships and qualified for USA Swimming Nationals.

 

 

Nikki Smith
Age Group / Senior Prep

Nikki Smith works primarily with Senior Prep and assists in various other aspects of the competitive team. As a former student-athlete, Smith was a four-time monogram winner for the University of Notre Dame Women’s Swimming & Diving team. As a swimmer at Notre Dame, she was a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier and two-time school record holder, along with being an NCAA All-American in the 200 butterfly. Prior to coaching with ALTO, Smith was a swim instructor and most recently coached masters swimming for Lakeshore Sport & Fitness in Chicago, IL. Smith graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

 

 

McKaela Glanville
Age Group

McKaela Glanville is an Assistant Coach with the Age Group program and has been coaching with ALTO for four years. Glanville is a current student-athlete at Wellesley College where she is a member of the Wellesley Swimming & Diving team. Glanville graduated from Notre Dame Belmont where she was a member of the Varsity Swim Team. Glanville was also a Team Captain at Alto Swim Club in her senior year. Glanville made the All-Time Top 10 performance lists at ALTO in 8 individual swims (ages 12 - 18) and was a part of four team record setting relays. Glanville is a member of the National Honors Society and the California Scholarship Federation and she holds the Notre Dame Belmont school records in the 50, 100, 200 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard IM, and 100 Yard Butterfly, along with being a member of record setting 200 Yard Medley, 200 Yard Freestyle, and 400 Yard Freestyle relays.

 

 

Daiane Oliveira
Age Group

Daiane Oliviera begins her fourth season coaching with our team. She works primarily with the Age Group program. Prior to moving to the United States, Oliviera was the Head Coach for IronXtrme Triathlon Team in Brazil and was a coach at Parana Club, working with multiple competitive age groups. Oliviera has been swimming competitively for over 16 years. As a professional swimmer, Oliviera won a Short Course World Championship in 2014, was a Pan American medalist, a South American Record Holder and Brazilian National Champion. Oliviera received her degree from Federal University of Paraná in Physical Education with a Masters extension in Exercise Physiology.

 

 

Dan Fay
Assistant

Dan Fay is an Assistant Coach with the Age Group program. Prior to moving to the Bay Area, he coached for 4 years in Massachusetts for Mei's Typhoons Swim Club and was a coach with the Harvard Technique Swim Academy. He completed both his undergraduate and doctoral training at Springfield College in a 6-year Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Physical Therapy combined degree program. While at Springfield, Fay competed on the Varsity Swim Team and served as a captain his senior year. After his competitive swimming career, Fay began competing in triathlons and completed his first half Ironman in 2017. In addition to coaching with ALTO, Fay is a Physical Therapist at PacificTHERx in Portola Valley.

 

 

Kim Williams
Assistant

Kim Williams is an Assistant Coach with the Age Group program. Prior to ALTO, Williams coached at Bellevue Club Swim Team, working with developmental and competitive swimmers ages 6 - 16. As a former student-athlete, Williams was a team captain for the Stanford University Women's Swimming & Diving team. She was a member of 3 consecutive National Championship teams and she was a 3 time National champion in the 200 & 400 Medley Relays. Williams was a four time CSCAA Scholar All-American. She graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Psychology. She is currently working in the Mind & Body Lab at Stanford Psychology Department as a Research Assistant.

 

 

Kelsey Theriault
Assistant

Kelsey Theriault has been an Assistant Coach with with the team since 2014 and has worked with all levels, from pre-competitive to National Group. Prior to moving to California, she coached for three years in New Jersey with the Greenfields Turtles. During this time, Theriault was also a volunteer coach for a Special Olympics swim team. Theriault swam competitively for Lafayette College, and specialized in breaststroke and freestyle. She graduated from Stanford University with a Master’s Degree in secondary education and currently teaches at at Los Altos High School. Prior to teaching at Los Altos, Theriault taught at Woodside High School where she also coached the school Track and Field team.
